Inspired by Roland Barthes' Camera Lucida on the chapter of Winter Garden photograph, I repeated what he had done; going over the past photographs of my mother. Her presence resonated familiarity and unfamiliarity at the same time regargless of the context in which she was being photographed. The aura of presence existed on its own aside from her appearance, and I felt ambiguous on her presence as a mother. She is not a mother in these photographs. She is a child, a sister, an elementary student, and a daughter. The process of creating these images was my journey to realize her presence detached from my existence.
